Where is Cabo Rojo?

The following sequence of images zooms into Cabo Rojo, Dominican Republic. North points up on all maps and aerial photographs.

First, below is a map of some of the Greater Antilles. These islands lie in the Tropic of Cancer along the northern edge of the Caribbean Sea. Dominican Republic and Haiti share the island of Hispaniola.

Second, below is a photograph of Hispaniola taken during the 59th Space Shuttle mission. Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two thirds of the island.

Third, below is a map of Dominican Republic. Cabo Rojo is in the southwest corner of the country, on the coast just south of Pedernales.

Fourth, below is a photograph of the southwest corner of Dominican Republic taken during the 60th Space Shuttle mission. As you follow the coast south from the upper left corner of the picture, Cabo Rojo is the first small cape that protrudes west.
